 The first photo is my primary school picture. I put the photo in my hand, becasue I want to present that I watching the photo past and also can see from my hand, I am not primary school student now. The photo I was taken is back and white photo, because my family was not rich at that moment and people accepted black and write photos for use in some important document. On the other hand, I took the photo is colour photo can compare with the black and white picture inside the photo to emphasise now and past.

 

There is an identity card of me in China. It was in middle shool that I got this identity card. The picture inside the photo on the left was me in primary school and on the right is the photo in middle school, I arrange them together is to reinforce the change I was in middle school. The change of my face and especially the eyes. The eyes in the photo that I was taken in primary looks cute, but the eyes in the photo of middle school looks tired and depressed. It reminds me of an issue which is I had no patience to follow the process to apply an identity card, but it takes time for people who need to apply identity cards. That is why my temper that unhappy was reflect in the photo. In addition, my little bad temper that I was not mature enough to face event in my middle school show in the photo.

I also use my hand as background to take the photo. The possible reason is that both of pictures were me in different age, so I want to use my hand as background to take photo. It was me wearing high school uniform that in high school on the left of the photo. The hair style of me in high school is similar to primary school, thus I chose my primary school picture for comprasion. I had short hair in primary school, as I did not know how to take care of  long hair, so my mum wanted me to have short hair. Whereas, I could not have long hair in high school is that I was busy with  my study, in order to pass an important exam to get the permission to the university, therefore, I rejected to have long hair. I wanted to save more time to review lessons than to spend time on looking after my hair. Besides, I took the photo also wearing school uniform, it means I had no time to change my clothes to take the picture.

I chose two same photos of me that was taken in university in China. When I was study in university in China, the study was not very busy, hence, I had time to started to have long hair. I use my hand and two pictures in middle school and primary school as  background, for contrast to my hair style to indicate the change of me. My mouth was not closed, when I was smile in the photo and my eyes looks not tired.

The photo was taken by Paul Fusco in USA , New York on June 2 2002.  "Ground Zero Closing Ceremony." A family member fastenss a photo of a victim to the fence overlooking ground zero.

There is pictures inside the photo is what I want to do to express my concept for this project. The photographer took in the photo in where the Ground Zero Ceremony held and the background is the fence looking through ground zero which is meaningful. It totally represents victims' family members felt sad. Therefore, I realise I should choose the suitable background to take photos carefully.

This photo is very interesting, because pictueres which inside the photo are certificated pictures, only have the head to shoulder photo of people, whereas, phtographer took the photo exclusive of heads of those photos' family member.

renew concept for time project_[certificate photos]

I realised the first concept I chose is difficult to express time. Therefore, I change my concept that is the certificate photos of me in primary school, middle school, high school and university. It is lucky I found that I bring all those certificate pictures with me, also I bring my Chinese Identity Card which I got it in my middle school, when I was 16 years old.

What I want to do is use the camera to retake the photos. I want change the way I take those certificate photos.

The reason that I chose those photos for the time project is that I want to show how I alter from primary school to university, however, I am still a student. There are some details in the pictures, because the certificate photos is very formal photos use for recognise people, so it can show how I grow in the period of primary school and university; how my facial expression change that can represent the vary of my characteristic.

When I was very shy and silent  person when in my primary school.
My personality become brighter than before, but still did not like to answer questions in the class [it means I would very fear that if I gave presentation in the class] in my middle school.
It was much easy for me to talk to others in my high school.
I started to give presentation in class and became independent in my university.

There is an important thing I will mention is that in my primary school to high school I had short hair and I have long hair in my university now.

 This photo was taken in the daytime. Althoguht the weather is cloudy, it is esaily than to take photos at night, becasue I failed to adjust the suitable aperture to take photo at night.
Therefore, the photo which taken at night was chose auto to take. Moreover, I found that the details in the photo was taken at night is not obvious as the phtoto was taken in the daytime.

Projiect two [1]

 This photo I chose, because the beautiful movement of her dance can represent the efford she spends on dance. I took this photo in low angle is to make her looks thin and tall. I remembered when I learnt dance, the dance teacher told us, you should keep in mind that you were the tallest in the world.

 The photo presents that she love dancing so much, because when she expresses herself in dance, she is very happy. It seems very essay action, but it really takes time to practice and accumulate basic skills of dance. I also took this picture in low angle, in order to show that she uses her legs and arms express the dance very well. Further, a wardrobe beside her can contrast to her legs, which can reinforce when she dances, her looks tall. She can dances very easily and naturally.

 She dances ballet, so that she will pretend to be a swan. Besides, she really enjoy to be an amateur dancer, becasue she can dance in her bedroom, while she has leisure time. It is a good way to entertain herself and fulfill her dream to be a dancer. Although she cannot dance on the stage, she can dance in her bedroom.       She does not need any audience, because when she lose herself in dance, which will make her feels delighted. Notwithstanding, the photo cannot reveal her facial expression, the action of her jump can absolutely indicate that the passion of her for the dance.
I use 1/100 shutter speed to take this photo.

I chose the picture, because I like the shadow in the photo. Though the person in the photo is not complete, the shadow makes it better. I want to show her beautiful movement, so as to express dance very carefully.  It seems no audience, but she also willing to make her dance perfact.

I like to use the light in the room, because the colour of the light is yellowthat can creat a harmony atmosphere in the room. In addition, she dance ballet, not other modern dance, so this colour can emphasise  a very soft feeling when seeing her dance ballet.

Proposal for Project Two

At first I have no idea about the time project, but one idea came to my mind after I did some research.  I remembered that one of my friends, she is keen on dancing. Moreover, she gave performance in Japan before. That is why I want to ask her to dance and I can take photos of her dance. When I talked to her about dancing, she told me that she learnt it before and really enjoy it. I also learnt dancing in my middle school, thus I know how to appreciate dance. I think that using the method I appreciate dance and the way my friend dances to take photo for the time project. The reason is that I want to show the passion of my friend for dance.

The concept of project two is an amateur dancer has a passion for dance.  The reader of the photos are people who can appreciate dance. Nevertheless, I think people who do not know how to dance or how to appreciate dance can understand the photos I take, too. I chose this idea, because I want to the amateur dancer love dancing so much, which can be seen in the way her dance. I realise that dance well cannot be successful in a period, it needs fundamental training which is accumulated day by day. Hence, ballet is the best choice for my friend to show her basic skills for dancing. Specifically, to express the fundamental skills of dance of my friend is to emphasise the concept in photos.  

I considered about the location to take photos, they are bedroom, dance training room or studio. Eventually, I intend to take photos in my bedroom, where can be a suitable place to present  an amateur dancer does not dance on the stage or special dancer training room, but in her bedroom. It is obvious that not only dancer training room can practise the basic skills, but also can practise in bedroom.

Artist research [Project two]

The photo was taken by Elliott Erwitt in Paris, France, 1989.

He captured the moment the dog jumped.

The action of the dog at that moment looks like a human. The man beside the dog also can be a contrast object, which makes  the photo become more meaningful.

This is another photo from Elliott Erwitt in Ireland 1968, Ballycotton. The small dog was running cross the street.
The wall and the pillar make the dog become smaller in the picture.

The photo shows dancers were practise for the performance. They all very good at dancing, which can be seen in the image. The one most closest dancer acts like a swan, which can recognise by the movement of her hands and feets. For the aspect of audience of the performance. The dancers acting are very beautiful.

The picture was taken in the dancers' trainning room. The big mirror illustrates the dancer was practising dancing. The figure of dancer in the mirror and see the dancer's gesture from back makes the composition looks in balance and vivid.

Project One [Final]

Proposal

spirit is very important for people.
I found that God has strong power that influence many people here. The Church can gather people together, which seems like a big family.  When I went to Church with my friend, I can totally understand that the spirit of God for people. I do not believe any religion, notwithstanding I feel warm and comfortable  while in the Church. Therefore,  I  chose to take photos in the Church. I focus on two Churches, because I want to illustrate that Churches are different but the spirit is the same. Finally, I took pictures in St. Mary of the Angel Church and St. Peter on Willis Church.  The reason that I chose two Churches is that I found something very special in St. Mary of the Angel Churches and St. Peter on Willis Church is for comparison. There is a place that people light up candles after prayer in St. Mary of the Angel Church.
I concentrate on the inside of two Churches to express the spirit of  Churches for people.

Project One [Final] contact sheet

There are the pictures that I took after last Thursday.
I got some good advice from my tutor and classmates.
They are very helpful and nice, so I need to work hard to improve my skills for taking photos.
My tutor suggested me to look at the phtotos angain, which can find out some good photos.
He also advised me some ways of taking phtotos in the Church.
I really try to take pictures in low angle and try to emphesise the power of  Church.
One of my classmates gave me "Renaissance Massacio" that I can learn from it.
I also remember one classmate recommended me to use photoshop, though I do not like to use it.
Thank you so much.
I realised that tutorial is very important, because I can learn from other students' photos.
It is really very different from the tutorial that I have in my Media studies courses.
Students do not like to share personal opinions in Media studies tutorial.
